Reasons to join

Why join Engineers Ireland as a student member?

We believe that the future of engineering in Ireland rests in the hands of today’s engineering students and we want to be there with you throughout college and beyond. Here are some of the ways we’ll support your first steps in becoming a professional engineer.

1. Free Membership

Students who are in full time study can avail of a free student membership until they graduate from college, beginning their journey with the oldest and largest professional body in Ireland.

2. We ensure your qualifications are recognised globally

Through our agreements such as the Washington Accord with other professional engineering bodies in countries all over the world (as varied from Canada to Korea), we ensure that if you want to travel you will have the opportunity to practice the skills that you developed in college in Ireland.

3. We'll help you build your network

You’ll need to develop skills throughout your career as an engineer. Get some advice from the people in the know and meet leading engineering employers at our student-industry engagement events in your college. Through our Region, Division and Society groups, we’ll put you in the best position to meet the people who can help you in your career.

4. We’ll sponsor your engineering society

We offer support to engineering societies and college events nationwide. Everything from a site visit from an Engineering firm to sponsorship for hoodies can be catered for. Simply email mgallagher@engineersireland.ie for a sponsorship form, or pick up the phone and call us.

5. Big savings when you graduate

Once you graduate with your engineering qualification you will get four years of discounted membership, which could save you over €500. This offer is exclusive to members who have joined as students before they complete their final year exams and who apply for a Graduate Membership transfer before graduation.
