STEPS, the Engineers Ireland schools outreach programme, has launched its new website which features numerous resources for students and teachers.

Loaded with new content www.steps.ie includes

• free online maths tutorials for leaving cert students;
• a comprehensive list of all engineering courses in Ireland that can be filtered by points, discipline or college location;
• short video profiles of engineers working in Irish companies explaining their career path and what their job entails;
• downloadable Project Maths support materials including worksheets outlining how maths is used in the workplace including engineering for games and medical devices.

“Now is an ideal time to consider a career in engineering especially in the life sciences, energy and technology sectors with some 2,500 vacancies alone in the latter industry currently available”, says John Power, Engineers Ireland director general.  “Ireland is the second largest exporter of medical devices in Europe which accounts for a staggering €6.9 billion in export revenue for the country each year and employs some 20,000 people throughout the country.”

“Engineering graduates are also some of the most mobile professionals in the world.  An Engineers Ireland accredited engineering qualification is recognised in some of the biggest countries in the world like Australia and the US as well as all EU countries giving engineers an enviable passport to travel.”
