John O'Dea, Chartered Engineer, President of Engineers Ireland presents his Presidential Address on Wednesday 25th September 2013.

In his address President John O'Dea will explore Ireland's role in the thriving medical devices sector.  The industry last year represented over €6.5bn of exports from Ireland (second only to Germany), and employs 26,000 people.  John has always had a great love of medicine, and having chosen engineering as a career in 1980, has come to appreciate how working in this industry affords the best of both worlds, having the ability to better the healthcare of many more patients than one could ever hope to encounter in medical practice.  A central theme of John's presidency is highlighting the role the engineer plays in improvements in healthcare.
