Major engineering award presented to Galway firms

Cold Chon (Galway) Ltd and Road Management Services (RMS) have become the latest organisations to be awarded the prestigious CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Accredited Employer standard from Engineers Ireland. The award follows an audit of the companies’ lifelong learning practices for their engineering professionals. They are the 129th & 130th organisations to be presented with this much coveted Engineers Ireland honour.
 
Commenting on the achievement, John Power, Chartered Engineer and Director General of Engineers Ireland, said: “The CPD Accredited Employer standard recognises organisations which implement specific continuing professional development policies to support their engineers and technical staff. Professional development has become the keystone for companies to stay ahead of their competitors and at the forefront of their customers’ minds”
 
Cold Chon was established in Galway in 1927 and manufacture a range of cationic bitumen emulsions and macadam binders which are used in road surfacing throughout Ireland. They also have an operation based in Sligo.
 
Speaking at the award presentation Liam Henry, Director with  Cold Chon (Galway) Ltd said: “We have implemented CPD into the business plan of our organisation to ensure that our workforce remain skilled and up to date on education and professional development in an ever increasing competitive market. We are delighted to receive this award in recognition of this joint effort and in acknowledgement that our people are our greatest asset”
 
RMS formed in 1982 and its head office is based at the parent company plant of Cold Chon in Oranmore in Galway. They have offices in Dublin, Cork and Sligo where they provide products and services to local authorities and to road building contractors.
 
Commenting on the award, Tom Walsh, Director with RMS said: “At RMS, CPD is a fundamental part of our training and development strategy and is seen as an investment and one of considerable development to both the organisation and the individual. This award has been achieved through the continuous commitment of our staff and management to participate in further education and professional development.
