Seminar Overview

Conservation Engineering for Timber can be a specialised area but knowledge of the behaviour of timber is an essential requirement for anyone likely to encounter structural timber.

With the Government once again emphasising re-use and rejuvenation of the older town centres in particular, the role of timber and the assessment of its capacities in-situ will feature more and more in the engineer’s workload.

With Protected Structures there are legal requirements to conserve structural elements but in any refurbishment project involving timber, it is better to assess and re-use wherever possible.

Information about the Seminar can be downloaded here.

Seminar aim

This seminar will demonstrate the qualities and versatilities of timber as employed by our antecedents and the ways and means of assessing structural strengths and contributions in-situ.

It will also show how the conservation of timber where possible, along with standard repair techniques, is feasible and reliable and how such conservation can add long projected life expectancies to structures.

Who should attend?

This seminar will be of interest to all engineers involved in structural work, all surveyors, architects, fire engineers and those in the Insurance world who have to assess risks associated with timber.

The seminar will also allow for networking between these groups and for the sharing of experiences and for the refining of best practices.
