How to apply

This year there are two categories you can enter:

  1. General Engineering – you and/or your team are all from the same engineering discipline
  2. Cross discipline – your team has members from at least 2 different engineering disciplines and/or 1 other non-engineering disciplines (e.g. business/marketing qualification).

There are 3 stages to the application.

1. Project summary

  • Submit a 500 word project summary to Engineers Ireland
  • Judges will assess all valid entries and announce the shortlist

2. Full report

If you're shortlisted, you must then submit a 2,000 word report under the following criteria:

  • Technical – outline the engineering principles underpinning the project
  • Design – describe the design process and the key features and elements of the project
  • Innovation – describe how this project compares with existing knowledge, research, designs and/or products
  • Commercial viability – outline the route to market and where applicable please refer to your business plan, financing, manufacture, distribution, marketing and sales strategy
  • Technology - digitalisation / new business models / AI / sensors / cloud

3. Presentation

Shortlisted candidates will present their projects to and be interviewed by a panel of industry experts including previous winners in the DCU Innovation Hub – DCU ALPHA.
